A Different Kind of Art

I spotted this wonderful pot at Countryside Gardens in Corcoran south of Hanover. If you have a chance, stop by. They are open through June 30 and after that by appointment. It's wonderful garden center just east of County Rd 19 on County Rd 30. It is family run and all the kids are very helpful and knowledgeable.

The new pot is about 3 feet across and is made of something similar in looks to cement, but it's not cement. Seeds for moss have been "planted" into the vessel. The man at Countryside said to spray it with diluted buttermilk and it will stimulate the moss to grow. I love the look of it and have planted it with Baby Tut Cyperus, Graffiti Double Red,an exotic geranium, two King Kong Coleus (super large!), Dark Star, White Cuphea, Gold Edge Duranta, Lemon Licorice and a Chocolate Chip Plant. I'll post photos as the moss starts to appear. I HOPE it works! If not, I still love the way it looks. I have it right outside my studio window. It has been wonderful to be outside in this beautiful weather. With Minnesota winters being so long, it's nice to have another art form for an excuse to be outside. Happy summer everyone!
